New hires and promotions
Zia Haque has been appointed director of the Baker Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies at Juniata College. Haque will also be an assistant professor of peace and conflict studies.
Haque will oversee all programs associated with the Baker Institute, as well as all academic programs associated with the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies.
Dr Chudamani Giri has joined the Internal Medicine Clinic team at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
Giri will provide outpatient and inpatient care at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and serve as a professor in the hospital’s internal medicine residency program.
Awards and honors
Jeffrey N. Starkey, Certified Financial Planner and Shareholder of Kooman & Associates, was recently appointed to the 2021 President’s Council.
This is the first year that Starkey has received this recognition from Raymond James, a financial services firm that has provided brokerage and custodial services to Kooman & Associates since the firm was founded by Marty Kooman in 1991. Starkey joined Kooman & Associates in 2014 and, in 2020, acquired the practice with his wife, Kate Kooman Starkey.
Kate Kooman Starkey, Certified Financial Planner and Shareholder of Kooman & Associates, was recently named to Forbes’ list of America’s Best Next Generation Wealth Advisors.
The list, which recognizes advisors to national, regional and independent firms, Kooman Starkey was the only Blair County financial professional to be recognized.
Mike Lynch, Bill Sipko, Doug Puchko and Nancy D’Aniello have been appointed to the Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Foundation Board of Trustees.
Lynch is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of AmeriServ Financial Inc. in Johnstown. Puchko is the chairman of Puchko Financial Group in downtown Johnstown. Sipko is the CEO of BCL Manufacturing at Windber. D’Aniello is the Director of Education and Training Solutions at CTC in Johnstown.
